Tis the season...I love decorating for the coming Fall and Winter Holidays. One of the things I remember most from childhood is my Mom decorating for Halloween and Christmas and how excited all of us kids were. We all felt the festive spirit that these decorations give and I can now see it with my own baby. I love the seeing the twinkle in his eye and the delighted giggle as he enjoys theses annual events.

$10 Room Makeover
A few Sundays ago we decided to get serious about a project we had been talking and talking about but had seen no action. We have a spare room upstairs that is small but gets beautiful sunlight and has a very cozy, nooky feeling about it. We haven't utilized the space though and have been using it as storage/playroom/closet. Taking inventory of what we had stored in our basement we realized that we could turn our upstairs room into something pretty nice, certainly better than it was! We hauled out the old dressers and bought some inexpensive storage racks from IKEA that fit within the closet. From the basement we brought up an old book case, a chair, a rug, and ottoman. I sewed a pretty slipcover for the ottoman from on tablecloth I recently bought at an antiques store. The floor pillows were ones we already had, I just gave them new covers sewn from old woolen blankets. We moved around some decorative items like plants and pictures and vases and within an afternoon had a redecorated room ready to be used and enjoyed.

Finding what you aren't looking for
Funny how it sometimes works out that you find something you weren't looking for while in the process of looking for something else. Such was the case today as we made out way to the pumpkin patch. We didn't spend any time there - in and out, only leaving 2 1/2 pounds heavier with 3 small pumpkins. It was cold, we are all under the weather, and Oliver wanted to drive, so we decided to take the long way around the Island to another patch that had farm animals. A wrong turn led us to a quiet, out-of-the way beach that we did not know existed and many picturesque Fall scenes along the way.
